Strangers Have The Best Candy

I installed eeebuntu onto an SD card on my Eee. Dang I’m actually pretty impressed but since I have a relatively new model I’m gonna wait for Eeebuntu 3 to patch things up before I fully switch over. Plus battery life is pretty shitty compared to XP.

Daily Dose of Vegetable Juice

Why the fuck is this hanging outside the art room in my school?

I think someone needs to control their power level/retardation in school.

Yotsuba&!… Where?

by Linkiboy on Mar.25, 2009, under Uncategorized

First, yes, I am aware I can just download the fan translated versions online.

Barnes and Nobles’ website had Yotsuba& volume 6 listed as soon to be released, and now it’s gone. I have the first 5 volumes… I really hope the rest get localized. I like reading comics on paper more than on LCD. Though those e-book readers are pretty nice. Wonder how well manga would show up on them?

DealExtreme…

I collect NDS flashcarts (or, their boxes at least). Weird hobby, I know, whatever. Anyway, I finally ordered a DSTT. Specifically paid 70 more cents for the paper packaging. Got it today, and guess what I got? Plastic. My first plastic box. And it’s not really a box, just a blister pack.

Guess I have to start collecting plastic packing as well…

Two food blogs in a day? Wow.

That’s chocolate almond milk by the way, which is delicious, and actually rather healthy.

The McGangBang

by Linkiboy on Mar.22, 2009, under Life

Mmm.

This is a tasty sandwich combination from McDonald’s. Off the Dollar Menu you order one double cheeseburger and one Spicy McChicken sandwich. Spit the double cheeseburger between the two patties, and then put the entire Spicy McChicken sandwich inside the double cheeseburger. This originated from Daytona Beach McDonald’s Restaurants.
Employee: Welcome to McDonald’s may I take your order?
Customer: Yeah let me get a McGangbang.
Order Display Screen
1 DB CHEESE $1.00
1 SPIC CHCK $1.00

$2.12
I was gonna ask for a McGangBang but I saw an old lady was at the register taking my order.

900HA Thoughts

by Linkiboy on Mar.21, 2009, under Technology

Figured it was time for a post on this machine. I have had this machine for almost three months. I love it. This isn’t going to be a generic review but rather my thoughts on it.

Specifications:
# Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor
# 160GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive (Seagate Momentus 5400.4)
# 1GB of DDR2 RAM (667MHz)
# Windows XP Home Edition Operating System
# 8.9″ WSVGA LED-Backlit 1024 x 600 LCD
# Ports: Three USB 2.0, 1 VGA monitor out, headphone jack, microphone input, SD card reader (SDHC compatible), Kensington lock slot, Ethernet 10/100
# Webcam (.3 MP)
# Battery: 7.4v 5200mAh 4-cell battery (39Wh)
# Wireless: 802.11b/g (Atheros AR5007EG)
# One-year warranty
# Size: 8.86 (W) x 6.69 (D) x .79 ~ 1.33 (H)
# Weight: 2 lbs 7 oz

At the time of writing the Eee 900HA goes for around $300 USD, so it’s a very good deal for what you get.

The machine comes loaded with standard Windows XP SP3. Nothing much to say about it as most of you likely already have used XP.

Unlike the old Linux Eee’s, this one comes with barely no software, and what little software it does come with, is junkware. It’s worth mentioning that it does come with very little junkware, I spent maybe 5 minutes removing it all.

So I installed a bunch of freeware software including(but definitely not everything I have):
-AbiWord
-Google Chrome
-Audacity
-Pidgin
-Skype
-Media Player Classic

I went with Google Chrome because it is lighter on resources than Firefox 3, and runs faster, and seemingly it consumes less battery.

Media playback. Pretty much perfect except high definition content in the H264 format. Other HD content like WMV play well at both 1280×720 and 1920×1080. Standard definition content can be played in power saving mode. The battery runs down in about 3:30 when watching a movie from the hard drive with Wi-Fi off and at 80% brightness.

Gaming. I have quite a few videos on YouTube with the unit running games (videos are in HD as well). Games that were playable included Age of Empires 2, Age of Mythology, Halo, Half Life, Counter Strike, Perfect World, World of Warcraft, and Quake 3 Arena. Half Life 2 runs at a decent FPS but crashes.

Here is a YouTube playlist with my videos: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=125530750E894D2A

Battey life can go from 4 hours of Wifi to 4:30 of no Wifi, at 80% brightness.

Spambots destroyed my blog, so now I decided to simply make a new one.
